Vote no on the State Board of Education's proposed social studies curriculum and reading list before the final vote this Friday. These changes don't just revise history — they erase it. The curriculum strips standards requiring students to understand the impact of race and ethnicity on society, removes the definition of racial segregation, and deletes the specification that Africans were enslaved because of their race. It renames the Tulsa Race Massacre a "riot." It removes the standard asking students to consider perspectives of underrepresented groups. This isn't a curriculum — it's a cover-up. The advisory panel that shaped it included conservative activists with little to no Texas K-12 classroom experience, and one adviser noted that some changes "were not reviewed by all of the content advisers." Texas students deserve an honest education. Removing these standards doesn't protect children — it leaves them unprepared to understand the country they actually live in. Board member Tiffany Clark said "our voices are being left off constantly," and she's right. Do not let this pass.
