I am writing as your constituent from Vancouver, Washington to thank you for your vote yesterday to block the DHS funding package.
Your refusal to fund ICE without meaningful accountability measures is exactly the leadership this moment requires. The people killed and brutalized by ICE—including Renee Nicole Good, Alex Pretti, and countless others—deserved better. Their families deserve justice.
I am grateful that you are demanding concrete reforms: warrant requirements, body cameras, an end to roving patrols, and a uniform code of conduct. These are not radical demands—they are basic law enforcement standards that ICE has operated without for far too long.
To be clear: I believe ICE should be abolished entirely. The agency has proven itself incapable of operating within constitutional bounds. However, I recognize that meaningful accountability measures are progress, and I support your efforts to secure them.
Please continue to hold the line as negotiations proceed over the next two weeks. The majority of Americans support your position. Your constituents support your position. Do not accept anything less than real accountability.
Thank you for representing Washington with courage and principle.
