I am enraged and devastated to learn of the Supreme Court’s decision to allow Tennessee to ban gender-affirming care. Children’s lives will be made so much more difficult due to suicide risks to trans people who are not able to address their essential needs. Further, this decision reinforces the sense that there is something wrong with being trans and therefore all of the hatred and violence that is directed at trans people. People who are just trying to EXIST. As a psychotherapist and friend to trans people and parents of trans children who are feeling so much fear and vulnerability right now - many gaming out how to flee the country if necessary - I demand you fight for their right to essential health services in the form of gender affirming care. The right are spreading fear and lies. Trans people are the primary easy target but they would happily go after all LGBTQI+ folks and women too. We cannot allow this dehumanization and cruelty in the name of “protecting the children”. Protect trans children! Thank you!
