Halt Musk's disruptive OPM takeover, secure employee data

To: Sen. Klobuchar, Rep. Stauber, Sen. Smith

From: A constituent in Babbitt, MN

February 1

The actions taken by Elon Musk's team at the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) are deeply concerning and unacceptable. Locking career civil servants out of critical computer systems that contain sensitive data on millions of federal employees raises significant cybersecurity risks and undermines proper oversight. This hostile takeover threatens the integrity and operations of an essential government agency. I urge immediate intervention to restore access for OPM's career workforce and re-establish proper protocols and safeguards. Musk's team must not be allowed to operate without oversight, exposing vast troves of personal data to potential misuse or breaches. Their disruptive tactics, such as installing sofa beds for around-the-clock work, demonstrate a concerning disregard for established processes. OPM plays a vital role in managing the federal workforce, and any efforts to downsize or reshape it must proceed through legitimate channels with full transparency. Musk's apparent attempt to bypass normal procedures and sideline experienced personnel is an unacceptable overreach that jeopardizes the agency's critical functions. Swift action is needed to rein in this reckless behavior, ensure data security, and protect the rights and privacy of federal workers. Unchecked, Musk's actions could destabilize OPM and compromise its ability to effectively serve the government and the American people. Robust congressional oversight and accountability measures must be implemented to prevent further damage.
