Stop Using Taxpayer Money to Run Pro-Trump Campaign Ads

To: Sen. Schmitt, Sen. Hawley, Rep. Smith

From: A verified voter in Rolla, MO

September 27

Demand an immediate investigation into the White House's use of taxpayer funds to air pro-Trump political advertisements ahead of November's midterm elections. The government has already spent over $1.28 million on two ads that echo Republican campaign talking points — branding Democrats as "communists" and touting the "One, Big, Beautiful Bill" — while a disclaimer simply reads "paid for by the U.S. Government." That is not a public service announcement. That is propaganda. Federal law is unambiguous: no appropriated funds may be used "for publicity or propaganda purposes within the United States not heretofore authorized by Congress." Even Sen. John Kennedy, a Republican, said on CBS that no public official "should spend public money on private ads for themselves." This crosses a clear legal and ethical line, and with the midterms five weeks out, every day of inaction is another day taxpayers are funding one party's election strategy. Push for a full accounting of where this money came from and hold the White House to the law.
