Stop Presidents From Profiting From the Presidency

To: Sen. Armstrong, Rep. Bice, Sen. Lankford

From: A verified voter in Edmond, OK

August 23

I’m asking Congress to pass legislation that prevents sitting presidents from using the enormous power of the presidency while simultaneously making extraordinary amounts of money from private investments and business ventures. President Trump’s latest financial disclosures show more than $2.2 billion in outside income in 2025, including enormous sums from cryptocurrency and digital assets, alongside extensive stock trading and income from businesses and licensing deals. Whether you support Donald Trump or not, this should be alarming. A president has the power to impose tariffs, award contracts, change regulations, influence entire industries and move financial markets with a statement. No president should simultaneously be allowed to hold and trade individual stocks, profit from cryptocurrency ventures, promote financial products connected to themselves or maintain business interests that could benefit from decisions made by their own administration. Congress should establish clear rules requiring the President and Vice President to divest conflicting financial interests or place appropriate assets into a genuinely independent blind trust. It should prohibit them from issuing, promoting or personally profiting from cryptocurrencies, tokens and similar financial products while in office, and establish meaningful disclosure and enforcement mechanisms. These rules should apply to every president, Republican or Democrat. The presidency is a public trust, not a business opportunity. Americans should never have to wonder whether a presidential decision was made in the national interest or because the person making it stood to make money from it. Please support strong, enforceable presidential conflict-of-interest legislation.
