New York City just committed $15 million to protect transgender youth healthcare access, and our state needs to do the same. While the Trump administration pressures hospitals to abandon trans kids — and institutions like NYU Langone and Mt. Sinai have already shut down their youth gender programs — cities and states that act boldly can fill that gap. I want you to introduce or co-sponsor legislation that dedicates state funding to providers of gender-affirming care for transgender youth.
The federal pressure campaign is real and it is working. Hospitals that depend on federal dollars are dropping care out of fear of retaliation. That means families are being left without options, and community health centers are being overwhelmed by displaced patients. State funding routed through providers outside federal funding streams can keep care accessible regardless of what Washington does next. Trans kids in this state deserve the same protection NYC is now offering. Make it happen.
