I am demanding that you to immediately investigate President Trump’s own public statements suggesting that members of his family possess and may benefit from nonpublic government information. This is insider trading and illegal.
This is not a partisan issue. It is a matter of the rule of law.
President Trump recently acknowledged that his children “have inside information” because of their relationship to the presidency. He made those remarks while defending reports that his family’s cryptocurrency ventures have generated extraordinary profits during his time in office. If senior government officials or their family members are using material, nonpublic information to enrich themselves through stocks, cryptocurrency, or other financial transactions, that strikes at the heart of public trust.
Federal securities laws prohibit insider trading because no one should be allowed to profit from information unavailable to the American people. Congress has an independent constitutional duty to conduct oversight whenever credible evidence suggests public office may be used for private gain. That responsibility does not disappear because the allegations involve a president or members of a president’s family.
The Constitution was designed to prevent corruption, not excuse it. Americans deserve to know whether confidential government information has been used to generate private wealth while families across this country struggle to pay their bills.
I ask that Congress immediately hold public hearings, obtain all relevant financial records and communications, and, if warranted, refer any evidence of criminal conduct to the appropriate law enforcement authorities. If no laws were broken, an independent investigation will confirm that. If laws were broken, no one should be above accountability.
Our democracy depends on transparency, equal justice under the law, and public servants who serve the people—not themselves.
I urge you to act without delay.
