Lest we forget come November, this is the escalating presidential behavior that the GOP Congress has enabled, condoned, supported and cheered. All while America slowly sinks into a pariah status around the world. All while the self-professed king of the dealmakers sets it all on fire. And they continue to call it the work of a genius. But the reality is that we are watching a president who is incapable of governing the country. He has decided in his second term to throw all alliances away. He cozies up to the real threats to America while attacking our friends and allies in an attempt to bend them to his will. He has decided that right absolutely makes right. And he uses the chicken little excuse of ‘national security’ to cause it all. But Trump doesn’t dare to cross the leaders who actually threaten the US, like Putin, Xi Jinping, or Kim Jong Un. Instead, he is trying to make himself feel better by kicking America’s allies, the nations he can punish without fear that they will kick him back. He wants Canada to bend to us as our 51st state. So he’s bludgeoning them with threats and tariffs. No matter the harm it does to our own country. But Canada, like other countries, has determined we are an unreliable partner anymore and is working out relationships and alliances with others. They will get stronger while we get weaker. As it has been pointed out, our allies “have power and agency of their own, and even now are likely planning for a world in which the Americans are no longer men and women of principle who stand by their word and by their friends.” This is the reputation the GOP has facilitated. Facilitated even while The Economist reviewed polling by YouGov showing that Trump has a positive job approval rating in only three states: West Virginia, Idaho, and Wyoming. Our struggling beef industry now has to contend with mystery meat foreign imports. Cattle ranchers and farmers say it will be impossible to distinguish between US and foreign meat. Nearly 30,000 pounds of Argentine beef were recently recalled after missing a required inspection in the US. And the president has refused to identify from which country or countries he plans to get the ground beef. This while the Bureau of Land Management under Trump has been selling wild horses for slaughter as meat for as little as $25 a head. Wild horses are legally protected from hunting or capture, but the administration appears to be selling them to middlemen who resell them into the food pipeline unquestioned. Oil is not moving unimpeded through the Strait of Hormuz as the administration continues to claim. Trump’s insistence that he needs his new ballroom for security is bunk. The WH already has a secure, hardened facility that can withstand a nuclear blast and house dozens of people for weeks. It was built secretly during the Obama administration. Elon Musk’s $200M buy-in of the Trump presidency is back-firing. Turns out no one wants data centers to make rich guys even richer. While sucking up all our water and electricity. And ultimately displacing humankind. Sure sign of the apocalypse…in Texas, some Republicans are mobilizing to prevent Republican Greg Abbott from winning a fourth term as governor because of his support for data centers. Bottom line observations…the Trump administration and the president cannot be trusted. They have destroyed all credibility to the point their every pronouncement becomes fodder for conspiracy. They will say and do ANYTHING to achieve their goals. They rule by deception, bullying, and outright lies. The GOP Congress may willingly fall for it all. But we the people? Today we are all this guy… Ontario Premier Doug Ford, who used to be a Trump fan, told reporters today “I have a lot of real estate on my ass, so [Trump] has a lot of room to kiss my ass.”
