Protect democracy, rein in unconstitutional executive overreach
To: Rep. Ellzey
From: A constituent in Irving, TX
July 8, 2025
The Trump Administration's overreach and blatant disregard for the rule of law through a slew of unconstitutional executive orders is alarming and unacceptable. These actions undermine our democratic institutions and erode critical protections for the American people. Congress must uphold its constitutional duty as a co-equal branch of government and assert its authority to rein in these abuses of power. Allowing one branch to accumulate excessive control jeopardizes the system of checks and balances that safeguards our nation. The executive orders targeting law firms, higher education institutions, regulatory agencies, and immigrant communities represent a direct assault on the freedoms of speech, association, and due process enshrined in the Constitution. The dismantling of federal agencies like the EPA, Department of Education, and USAID, without congressional approval, oversteps the President's authority and poses severe consequences for public health, the environment, education, and America's global standing. The revocation of key healthcare protections under the Affordable Care Act, coupled with cuts to medical research funding, Medicare, and Medicaid, puts the well-being of millions at risk. Stripping workers of job security and undermining labor rights through the termination of probationary federal employees further erodes the social safety net. These actions, compounded by the frosting of grants for small businesses, clean energy initiatives, and economic development programs, hamper economic progress and disproportionately harm underserved communities. It is Congress's responsibility to exercise its oversight and legislative powers to uphold the Constitution, protect civil liberties, and serve the interests of the American people over those of any individual or administration. Decisive action must be taken to nullify unconstitutional orders, restore funding to vital programs, and reaffirm the fundamental principles of our democracy. The future of the nation depends on the commitment to preserve the separation of powers and the rule of law. User: That message is great, thank you! I look forward to sharing it with my representatives.
