An Open Letter
To: Gov. Mills
From: A constituent in South Portland, ME
March 2
I am a resident writing to respectfully urge your office to support a thorough antitrust review of the proposed transaction involving Paramount Global and Warner Bros. Discovery, including encouraging our state’s Attorney General to participate in any multistate investigation or litigation as appropriate.
This transaction would concentrate ownership of major television networks, news organizations, film studios, and streaming platforms within a single corporate structure. Such consolidation raises concerns about reduced competition, fewer choices for consumers and advertisers, and increased concentration in markets that play a central role in the information and media available to the public.
State attorneys general have historically worked together to review and, when necessary, challenge mergers that may substantially lessen competition or harm consumers. Your leadership in supporting careful review and coordination can help ensure that the interests of your state’s residents are fully represented.
I respectfully urge you to encourage full and independent scrutiny of this transaction and to support our Attorney General’s participation in any appropriate multistate action.
Thank you for your service to our state.
