Our state is moving in the wrong direction on transgender rights, and legal experts tracking this issue are raising alarms. The Anti-Trans National Legal Risk Assessment Map, which has monitored state-level legislation for five years, now flags our state as a place where transgender residents face real legal danger. That is a failure of leadership, and I expect you to fix it.
States earning the worst designations on this map have bathroom bans with criminal penalties, restrictions on identity documents, and laws that effectively erase transgender people from public life. These aren't abstract policy disagreements — they are laws that force people out of their communities, their states, and in some cases their country. No state in the U.S. is currently considered low-risk for transgender youth, and that should horrify every elected official who claims to represent all constituents.
Oppose every bill that targets transgender people in our state. Work to repeal the laws already on the books that earned us this designation. The people you represent include transgender residents who deserve the same legal protections as everyone else — not legislation built on fear.
