Urgent Human Rights Crisis: Stop Unlawful Deportations

To: Sen. Young, Rep. Messmer, Sen. Banks

From: A constituent in Mount Vernon, IN

July 7

I am writing to express my deep concern and moral outrage over the kidnapping, deportation, and torture of Venezuelan and Salvadoran migrants—many of whom are asylum seekers—who have been sent to El Salvador’s CECOT mega-prison without due process. These individuals, including people like Abrego Garcia, are being held in conditions that amount to torture, including forced kneeling for hours, severe malnutrition (losing over 30 pounds), physical abuse, and complete denial of legal rights and habeas corpus. Many of these individuals were living in the United States and were removed without hearings, without legal representation, and in direct violation of U.S. constitutional protections and international human rights law. This is not who we are as a country. These are human beings, not criminals. The American public is horrified, and we did not vote for these policies. They are cruel, unconstitutional, and must be immediately condemned and investigated. I urge you to: • Demand transparency from DHS, ICE, and CBP regarding these deportations • Call for a congressional investigation into CECOT and U.S. involvement • Push for the return and legal review of individuals deported unlawfully • Uphold U.S. obligations to human rights and due process Please take a strong public stand. Lives are at stake, and the world is watching.
