I am writing to urge you to take a strong stance in support of a ceasefire and arms embargo on Israel in relation to the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The Biden administration's continued supply of weapons and munitions to Israel, even as civilian casualties mount from the indiscriminate bombing of residential areas, schools, and hospitals, is unacceptable and directly enabling war crimes. The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is dire, with over 38,000 people killed already, predominantly children (Reuters), and millions displaced and starving. Israel's disproportionate use of force against a densely populated urban area is indefensible and a violation of international law. Providing arms and military aid only perpetuates this cycle of violence and human suffering. As an elected representative and our Democratic nominee, you have a moral obligation to use your voice and position to demand an immediate cessation of hostilities and a halt to arms transfers that enable these atrocities. Standing idly by or offering tepid calls for restraint is tantamount to complicity. Bold action in the form of a concrete arms embargo is required to demonstrate our nation's commitment to human rights and just resolution of this conflict. As a Jewish person of German descent, I implore you to be on the right side of history and take decisive action befitting the gravity of this crisis. The path of continued military support for Israel's assault on Gaza is morally and strategically indefensible.
