The SAVE Act is Voter Suppression
To: Sen. Cornyn, Sen. Cruz
From: A constituent in San Antonio, TX
February 13
The issue at the heart of the SAVE Act is not a need for additional documentation or whether non-citizens are voting. Non-citizen voting is already illegal, and in the voter registration process there are multiple verification procedures to ensure the identity of the voter. If the SAVE Act passes the senate, this will place an undue burden on adoptees with name changes, married women with name changes, areas impacted by natural disasters, hospital record gaps, the cost and administrative delays of obtaining certified copies, and mismatched records between federal agencies.
The problem with the SAVE Act is that it creates unnecessary barriers for eligible citizens. The only thing the SAVE Act does it make voting harder for people who legally do so. This is voter suppression.
