Safeguard public health and safety, curb dangerous policies

To: Sen. Blumenthal, Rep. DeLauro, Sen. Murphy

From: A constituent in Guilford, CT

May 28

The current administration's reckless policies and actions pose a grave threat to public health and safety across the United States. Their assault on federal agencies like NOAA, FEMA, CDC, and others undermine our nation's ability to effectively forecast severe weather events, respond to natural disasters, prevent disease outbreaks, and ensure food and consumer product safety standards are met. This culminates in preventable loss of life on a potentially massive scale. Their indiscriminate slashing of the federal workforce and gutting of vital programs and services is needlessly endangering millions of Americans. From increasing vulnerability to extreme weather disasters, compromising disease prevention and treatment, to undermining regulatory enforcement that protects our air, water, and food supply - the consequences could prove catastrophic. This reckless agenda puts corporate profits over people's well-being. A course correction is urgently needed. Robust federal agencies with adequate staffing and resources are essential to safeguarding public health, upholding safety standards, and mitigating risks posed by natural disasters and emergencies. Protecting American lives should be the top priority, not ideological crusades against the civil service. I urge you to take decisive action to rein in these dangerous policies before more preventable tragedies occur.
