Dear Senator Moreno, Senator Husted, and Representative Miller, I am writing to you as a concerned constituent deeply disturbed by recent reports of egregious conduct by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), including the tragic shooting of an unarmed person and the alarming case of a two-year-old child sent alone across the country after explicit orders not to do so. These incidents—covered in the CNN live report on January 24, 2026—raise fundamental questions about accountability, transparency, and oversight of a federal agency operating with immense power and too little consequence. It is unacceptable that ICE agents are reportedly operating with impunity, including the use of force against unarmed individuals and actions that jeopardize the safety and dignity of children and families. These actions are not only inhumane—they undermine public trust in the rule of law and the ability of our government to protect all people within U.S. borders. My questions are straightforward and urgent: 1. Why do ICE agents appear to be able to conceal their identities (i.e., “wear masks”) while carrying out operations that involve use of force? What legal authority or internal policy permits this, and what safeguards exist to ensure accountability? 2. Why are ICE agents reportedly able to shoot unarmed individuals without transparent, independent investigations and consequences? What mechanisms are in place to review such use of force, and how are findings made public? 3. In the case of the two-year-old child sent unaccompanied across the country despite clear directives not to do so, what oversight failure allowed this to happen, who authorized it, and what steps will be taken to ensure this never happens again? 4. If Congress cannot hold ICE accountable and prevent these abuses, who within our government is responsible for ensuring justice, oversight, and the basic protection of human rights? These are not partisan questions—they are matters of human dignity, constitutional governance, and public safety. I urge you to push for: • Full and transparent investigations into these incidents • Clear reporting to Congress and the public on findings and remedial action • Legislation to increase oversight, accountability, and clear limits on ICE authority I respectfully request a written response outlining your position, any actions you intend to take, and the timeline for those actions.
