Find a Compromise to End the Government Shutdown

To: Rep. Self, Sen. Cornyn, Sen. Cruz

From: A constituent in Allen, TX

November 8

I am writing as one of your constituents to urge you to take immediate action to end the government shutdown. The ongoing stalemate is deeply damaging to families, businesses, and the country as a whole. People are frustrated, hungry, and disappointed in the inability of our elected leaders, on both sides, to put the American people first. The recent election sent a clear message: voters are tired of partisan gamesmanship and want real leadership that delivers results. It was a difficult election for your party, and it should serve as a wake-up call that the public expects compromise, cooperation, and progress, not more gridlock. Democrats have made an offer. It may not be perfect, but it provides a foundation for negotiation. Now is the time for you and your colleagues to show that you can rise above party politics and do what’s right for the country. Refusing to engage or insisting on an “all or nothing” position only prolongs the suffering of federal employees, small businesses, and communities that rely on government services. Leadership means finding common ground even when it’s uncomfortable. It means demonstrating the courage to put country before party. Please work with Democrats to reach a fair, responsible agreement that reopens the government and restores faith in our political system. We expect you to lead, not to dig in. The people you represent deserve better than endless political brinkmanship. Compromise is not weakness; it’s the essence of democracy. I urge you to act now and help bring this shutdown to an end
