HR22, the SAVE Act proposed by Rep. Chip Roy, poses a grave threat to voting rights and must be rejected. This draconian legislation would impose stringent identification requirements that could disenfranchise over 21 million Americans, disproportionately impacting marginalized communities like women, people of color, and the elderly. Provisions like requiring identical names on voter registration and ID, banning online and mail-in registration, and mandating frequent purges of voter rolls are blatant attempts at voter suppression. Such measures undermine the very foundations of our democracy and the fundamental right to vote. We cannot allow this regressive bill to pass, as it would deprive millions of their voice and erect unacceptable barriers to participation in the electoral process. Protecting and expanding voting rights should be a top priority, not enacting laws that actively disenfranchise citizens. I urge you to firmly oppose HR22 and any efforts to restrict access to the ballot box. Our democracy depends on your steadfast commitment to upholding the rights of all Americans to make their voices heard at the polls.
