Defend voting rights ahead of 2026 elections

To: Rep. DelBene, Sen. Cantwell, Sen. Murray

April 10

Republicans across the country are pursuing tactics to restrict voting rights and undermine free and fair elections in 2026. Their goal is clear - make it harder for certain groups to vote in an attempt to tilt the playing field in their favor. This is an assault on democracy that cannot go unchallenged. We must take action now to safeguard the integrity of our elections. Every eligible American citizen should have equal access to the ballot box, regardless of their political affiliation. However, Republicans are advancing policies like voter roll purges, limits on early and mail voting, and giving partisan officials power to refuse to certify election results. These undemocratic practices are an existential threat to our system of government. We have witnessed firsthand how baseless claims of voter fraud can spark violence and tear at the fabric of our nation. Republicans know they cannot win on the issues, so they are resorting to voter suppression and election subversion as their path to power. Their plan is abundantly clear from their actions at the state and federal levels. This fight transcends party lines - it is about preserving the fundamental right to vote that our democracy was founded upon. We must mobilize immediately with litigation, advocacy, and civic engagement efforts across all 50 states. The very future of American democracy hangs in the balance ahead of 2026. Inaction is not an option; we must boldly defend the freedom to vote that generations have fought and died to secure. The time to act is now.
