Join 27 states to stop federal overreach

To: Sen. Hooper, Rep. Anderson, Gov. DeSantis

From: A constituent in Tarpon Springs, FL

February 3

I am writing as your constituent to express a deep concern about what many citizens across our country see as federal government overreach. State legislators from 27 states recently convened to declare that “the federal government has crossed a line” and to coordinate efforts to protect constitutional rights and state sovereignty. This unprecedented coalition is advancing dozens of bills aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability for federal operations, safeguarding protections against warrantless arrests and racial profiling, guaranteeing access for state authorities in matters involving federal agents, and imposing consequences when federal agencies act outside the bounds of the Constitution. Montana’s leadership in this effort — exemplified by voices like State Senator Cora Neumann and others — demonstrates the value of a state-driven response when citizens feel that federal power has exceeded its constitutional limits. I urge you to take Montana’s example and this multi-state initiative seriously. Our state should not wait for others to act first — we should be at the forefront defending the balance of power envisioned by the Founders. Specifically, I respectfully ask that you: 1. Support or introduce legislation that asserts state authority to protect our constitutional rights when federal actions exceed delegated powers. 2. Ensure that any such measures include appropriate safeguards and accountability consistent with our Constitution. 3. Communicate your position publicly, so voters understand how you are defending our state’s interests against undue federal encroachment. Many of us feel that Washington, D.C. has grown too distant from the needs and rights of everyday Americans. States were designed to be a check on federal authority, and when the federal government acts beyond its constitutional mandate, state leadership matters. I hope you will be a part of that leadership. Thank you for your time and service. I look forward to your response and to seeing meaningful action on this issue.
