An Open Letter
To: Gov. Hochul
From: A verified voter in Highland, NY
July 2
I am in strong support for the time extender bill A5846A/S4602A. New York citizens need the reassurance of a statutory remedy that can quickly compensate for disruption at polling places. The passage of this bill will allow extension of voting hours without the time and expense previously demanded by required judicial action.
This bill closes a hole in New York State’s voter protections for the 2026 Mid-Terms. State Boards of Election must be prepared against frivolous and serious disruptions. The Trump administration is attempting to undermine free and fair elections with misinformation, demands for voter data, mail-in ballot restrictions, preemptive declarations of fraud, and fearmongering of arrest at polling places.
We look to New York State to fight this threat. Your job is to restore our confidence in casting our ballots and ensuring each one is counted. This bill must be signed. Please do so!
