Stop the FDA From Targeting Chest Binders

To: Sen. Schiff, Sen. Padilla, Rep. Friedman

From: A constituent in West Hollywood, CA

December 22

On Tuesday, December 16, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued warnings to twelve companies that will affect access to chest binders for transgender people. Chest binders are not a trend or a cosmetic product for many transgender and gender-diverse individuals. They are an important tool that helps people feel safe, comfortable, and able to participate in daily life, school, and work. For many, access to properly designed binders is closely tied to mental well-being and personal dignity. This targeting has been done without meaningful input from medical professionals, transgender people, and advocacy organizations, and could unintentionally limit access to safe products. We demand that you: * Seek transparency from the FDA about any current or proposed actions related to chest binders * Advocate for policies grounded in medical evidence and expert consensus * Ensure that transgender people and healthcare professionals are included in any decision-making process that affects their care and safety Transgender people deserve healthcare and consumer protections that are based on science, compassion, and respect—not fear or misinformation. We urge you to use your position to ensure that federal agencies act responsibly and do not cause harm to vulnerable communities.
