HB 2468 would double the cap on Kansas’s Tax Credit Scholarship voucher program and opt the state into a federal voucher scheme, redirecting public funds away from Kansas public schools and into private programs with limited oversight. That is not a responsible use of taxpayer money.
Kansas tax dollars should strengthen the schools that serve most children, especially rural districts, students with disabilities, and families with the greatest needs. Expanding vouchers weakens public education budgets, reduces accountability, and increases inequity without proven statewide benefit.
Opting into a federal voucher program also gives up state and local control over education policy in favor of a national privatization effort that prioritizes private interests over public responsibility.
I urge you to oppose HB 2468 and defend Kansas tax dollars by investing in public schools—teachers, classrooms, and student services—not voucher expansions that drain public resources.
