Oppose Reconciliation Funding for ICE and CBP

To: Rep. Elfreth, Sen. Van Hollen, Sen. Alsobrooks

From: A verified voter in Arnold, MD

April 2

Vote no on any reconciliation bill that funds ICE and CBP. Republicans are planning to ram through $100 billion over 10 years for these agencies with zero accountability or restrictions on immigration agents. This is the wrong priority when families in our state are drowning under the weight of healthcare costs, grocery bills, and gas prices. Using reconciliation to bypass normal debate and fund agencies responsible for human rights abuses is a betrayal of your constituents. We need relief from crushing expenses, not another decade of blank checks for enforcement operations that have already resulted in the deaths of American citizens this year. The Minneapolis shootings should have been a wake-up call, not an excuse to double down. This reconciliation strategy will inevitably mean cuts to programs people actually depend on to survive. Medicaid, food assistance, and other safety net programs will be on the chopping block to pay for this enforcement expansion. Meanwhile, working families get nothing while ICE gets a 10-year funding guarantee with no oversight. Stand with the people who are struggling to afford basic necessities. Oppose reconciliation funding for ICE and CBP.
