The administration's move to require universal registration of all individuals present in the U.S. without legal status is highly concerning and risks further marginalizing vulnerable communities. This policy creates an impossible choice – either disclose one's information to authorities intent on mass deportations, or face criminal charges for failing to register. It threatens to tear families apart, disrupt local economies, and undermine public safety by driving people into the shadows. This draconian measure needlessly instills fear and mistrust in immigrant communities that are vital contributors to our society and economy. Rather than pursuing discriminatory registration policies rooted in prejudice, our nation's leaders should work toward comprehensive immigration reform that provides a pathway to legal status and citizenship for those already embedded in our communities. Forcing people to carry documentation echoes dark periods of history we should not revisit. I urge you to voice firm opposition to this unjust registration requirement and demand more humane, pragmatic solutions that uphold our values of human rights, dignity and inclusion for all people, regardless of nationality or immigration status. Now is the time to reject policies of marginalization and embrace more just, compassionate approaches.
