An Open Letter

To: Rep. Scanlon

From: A verified voter in Brookhaven, PA

June 25, 2025

I write as a passionate constituent in Pennsylvania’s 5th District to express my deep disappointment and concern about your recent vote on June 2025 to table Rep. Al Green’s impeachment resolution. While I appreciate your past support during the impeachments of 2019 and 2021, this latest decision feels like a step back when strong accountability is needed most. Our democracy currently faces grave threats—from repeated disregard for democratic norms to provocative rhetoric fueling division and mistrust. In this moment, delaying the House’s consideration of impeachment feels not like cautious deliberation, but like a missed opportunity to uphold the rule of law and collective responsibility. I urge you to reconsider this approach by taking a courageous stand in your next term. As a representative I respect, I ask that you support any legislative path that holds leaders accountable when they endanger democratic institutions. Actions speak louder than opinions—voting to table a process of accountability risks sending the message that such behavior is tolerable. Please reaffirm your commitment to accountability, the Constitution, and the voters of PA‑5 by supporting meaningful oversight and every tool necessary to ensure no one is above the law. Thank you for your service and for considering my perspective—hold fast to the principles that built this country. I look forward to your response and to your continued leadership.
