Congress must act to protect the independence of the FED

To: Rep. Veasey, Sen. Cruz, Sen. Cornyn

From: A constituent in Dallas, TX

January 12

I am writing to express deep concern over the recent federal investigation into Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell. This action appears to be politically motivated retaliation for decisions on monetary policy, and it represents an alarming use of prosecutorial power against an independent institution. The independence of the Federal Reserve is essential to maintaining stable markets, controlling inflation, and preserving global confidence in the U.S. economy. Undermining that independence for short-term political advantage threatens the rule of law and the credibility of the world’s largest economy and democracy. No administration—regardless of party—should use law enforcement to coerce monetary policy. Such a precedent would destabilize financial markets and weaken constitutional checks and balances. I urge you to speak out forcefully, support oversight efforts, and defend the institutional independence that makes our system resilient.
