Enforce the War Powers Act and End Military Operations in Iran

To: Rep. Houlahan, Sen. Fetterman, Sen. McCormick

From: A verified voter in West Chester, PA

May 1

The 60-day War Powers Act deadline expired on May 1. Congress must now enforce the law and compel President Trump to end military operations in Iran immediately. Trump's claim that a ceasefire "pauses" the 60-day clock is legally baseless. The War Powers Act contains no pause button. Tens of thousands of US service members remain deployed in the region, the administration continues threatening escalation, and Trump's own letter admits "the threat posed by Iran to the United States and our Armed Forces remains significant." This is not a terminated conflict. This is an ongoing war without congressional authorization. The administration's refusal to seek approval sets a dangerous precedent that strips Congress of its constitutional war powers. Every president who ignores this law makes it easier for the next one to launch unauthorized wars. If Trump can simply declare hostilities "terminated" while keeping troops in harm's way and threatening further action, the War Powers Act becomes meaningless. Pass a binding resolution to defund continued military operations in Iran. The Strait of Hormuz remains closed and prices are skyrocketing at home while we fight an illegal war. Enforce the law you swore to uphold.
