I am writing to express my absolute outrage over the continued dismantling of our federal government and the ongoing mistreatment and harassment of federal employees under the leadership of Russell Vought and OPM Director Scott Kupor. The latest defense of the administration’s Deferred Resignation Program and workforce reductions is deeply troubling. More than 300,000 federal employees left the government last year, including approximately 140,000 through the Deferred Resignation Program. Yet the administration continues to portray these massive workforce reductions as a success while agencies are left struggling to maintain their missions. Even more disturbing, the Government Accountability Office has found evidence that positions were eliminated without adequate consideration of mission needs, while hiring restrictions subsequently prevented agencies from replacing employees with critical skills. GAO has also warned that OPM itself lost significant institutional knowledge, with its workforce shrinking by 35 percent between December 2024 and March 2026 and 57 percent of departing employees having 11 or more years of service. This is not responsible government management. It is the deliberate weakening of the federal government’s ability to serve the American people. Federal employees are not the enemy. They are the people who process Social Security claims, protect veterans, maintain our military infrastructure, collect taxes, administer benefits, protect our food and air, enforce federal laws, and perform countless other functions Americans depend on every day. Instead of respecting and supporting these employees, this administration has subjected them to uncertainty, intimidation, forced departures, hiring restrictions, attacks on their collective bargaining rights, and policies that undermine their ability to do their jobs. The consequences are already being documented by government watchdogs. Russell Vought and Scott Kupor should not be allowed to continue treating the federal workforce as something to be dismantled at will. Congress has a constitutional responsibility to provide oversight and hold executive branch officials accountable when their actions threaten the effective functioning of government. I am asking you to stop treating these actions as business as usual. Use your position in Congress to demand meaningful oversight of the Deferred Resignation Program, workforce reductions, hiring restrictions, agency reorganizations, and the treatment of federal employees. Demand answers about how these decisions were made, what they are doing to agency missions, and what the long term consequences will be for the American people. And I want to be very clear about something. This is an election issue. If you care about getting reelected, then stand up for the federal employees who serve this country and for the millions of Americans who depend on the agencies they work for. Do not wait until these agencies are completely hollowed out before Congress decides to act. Federal employees are watching. Their families are watching. The American people are watching. We need members of Congress who will stand up and say ENOUGH. Stop the destruction of our federal government. Stop the harassment and intimidation of federal employees. Stop allowing political ideology to take precedence over competent, functioning government. I am asking you to use every authority available to you as a member of Congress to hold Russell Vought, Scott Kupor, and the administration accountable. This needs to be stopped. And it needs to be stopped now.
