Vote NO on Passed House Tax Bill
To: Sen. Schiff, Sen. Padilla
From: A constituent in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA
May 24, 2025
I'm writing to urge Senator Alex Padilla and Senator Adam Schiff to vote NO on the tax bill that recently passed the House. We need to keep kids eating real food and this bill will decrease their food access. It will:
- cut farm-to-school and farm-to-food bank programs that increase access to produce
- cut SNAP program resources and eligibility, increasing food insecurity
- entirely cut the SNAP-education program which measurably increases the amount of fruits and vegetables that children eat Currently, our children are developing chronic diseases at younger ages, one in five children experiences food insecurity, and 95% of children do not meet fiber intake requirements.
Reducing children's access to real food, including fruits and vegetables, through cuts in this bill will only further increase kids' risk of chronic disease, cancer, food insecurity, and disordered eating. Additionally, I would like to urge Senator Alex Padilla and Senator Adam Schiff to
- Oppose cuts to FDA food safety programs and staffing cuts
- Reinstate and defend in court the PFAS regulations that decrease chemicals in kids' drinking water
- Protect the national school lunch nutrition improvement regulation of 2024 should it come under attack. Thank you for making sure Senator Alex Padilla and Senator Adam Schiff know that I, and many other members of my community, oppose this bill. Thank you for vour time.
