Halt unethical DNA collection from migrant children

To: Sen. Husted, Sen. Moreno, Rep. Joyce

From: A constituent in Willoughby, OH

July 20

I strongly condemn the inhumane practice of forcibly collecting DNA samples from migrant children and storing them indefinitely in criminal databases. This is a gross violation of human rights and civil liberties. Treating vulnerable minors as criminal suspects without any justification is unacceptable and represents a disturbing shift towards a totalitarian genetic surveillance regime. The forced DNA collection of over 133,000 immigrant youth, some as young as 13, by the Department of Homeland Security is a chilling overreach that perpetuates the dehumanization and criminalization of migrants. Adding their genetic profiles to the FBI's CODIS database means these children will be treated as suspects in every future criminal investigation, stripping them of privacy and dignity. This dystopian practice erodes constitutional protections and lays the groundwork for expanded genetic monitoring of the entire population, disproportionately targeting marginalized communities. It is a slippery slope towards a society where bodily autonomy is disregarded and ethnic minorities are subjected to intrusive biometric surveillance under the guise of law enforcement. I urge you to take immediate action to halt this unethical DNA collection program and purge all illegally obtained juvenile genetic data from government databases. Upholding civil liberties and ensuring equal protection under the law for all people, regardless of immigration status, must be a top priority. Failure to address this injustice will further undermine public trust and human rights.
