Oppose Eliminating Department of Education - Harmful Legislation

To: Rep. Cuellar, Sen. Cruz, Sen. Cornyn

From: A constituent in Universal City, TX

February 7, 2025

The proposed bill H.R. 899 seeks to terminate the entire Department of Education, which plays a crucial role in ensuring access to quality education nationwide. Eliminating this department would have detrimental consequences for all students regardless of race or creed, disrupting the administration of federal financial aid programs, educational research, and civil rights enforcement in schools. Abolishing the Department of Education is unethical. Rather than taking this drastic step, we should work towards reforming and strengthening the Department to better serve students, educators, and communities across the country. I urge you to oppose this misguided legislation and instead support measures that prioritize improving our education system for all.
