I am writing to you as a concerned and engaged constituent from Mount Vernon, Indiana who believes that our country should always stand for decency, fairness, and the dignity of every human being. Right now, I feel compelled to speak up about issues that matter deeply—not just to me, but to the soul of this nation. Due process and human dignity are not optional. They are foundational to what it means to be American. Whether we’re talking about U.S. citizens, international students, people with visas, or individuals from countries like Ukraine, Afghanistan, Venezuela, and others seeking refuge or opportunity here—they all deserve to be treated with respect and humanity. Free speech must be protected. Our college campuses, communities, and public spaces should be places where people—especially students—can engage in dialogue, protest peacefully, and advocate for justice without fear of suppression or retaliation. We must also remember that Latino communities, international visitors, and students studying in the U.S. contribute enormously to our society, economy, and culture. They deserve fair treatment, not suspicion or scapegoating. And finally, I urge you to advocate for the release of Kilmar Abrego- Garcia. Doing the right thing in this moment will send a clear message that America stands for justice—not just in words, but in action. I’m asking you to lead with integrity, act with courage, and uphold the values we claim to cherish: liberty, fairness, and the worth of every individual. And don’t forget due process and 1st amendment rights are for everyone in our campus, no matter their status — these concepts make America great. Please, do the right thing!!!
