Protect Special Education Research

To: Rep. Scanlon, Sen. McCormick, Sen. Fetterman

From: A constituent in Wayne, PA

July 13

Please protect the integrity of federal special education and disability research. Funding decisions should be based on expert review, evidence, and the needs of students with disabilities—not political priorities. Families, educators, and policymakers rely on high-quality research to improve services under IDEA, support students with autism, learning disabilities, ADHD, communication disorders, and other disabilities, and identify effective educational practices. Politicizing research funding risks slowing innovation and limiting the evidence schools need to serve students well. Please oppose changes that weaken independent, merit-based review of federal education and disability research grants. Students with disabilities deserve policies grounded in evidence, not politics.
