Stop Unauthorized War in Iran and Demand Congressional Authority

To: Sen. Van Hollen, Rep. Elfreth, Sen. Alsobrooks

From: A verified voter in Arnold, MD

March 12

I need you to introduce and vote for a new war powers resolution that stops Trump's unauthorized military operations in Iran. On February 28th, Trump launched major combat operations without congressional authorization, violating Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution. Congress has sole authority to declare war, and you must reassert that power now. Hundreds have died from airstrikes. Over twenty Iranian ships have been torpedoed in international waters. US service members are dying. Trump keeps changing his rationale and has no end date or plan beyond doing "whatever it takes." This is shaping up to be another forever war, and Congress already voted down two resolutions that would have stopped it. You must also conduct public hearings on this administration's actions and refuse any supplemental funding for this illegal military action. Trump has spent billions while cutting domestic programs, and he'll ask for more. If Trump wants this war, he can send his own son. American families shouldn't sacrifice their children for an unauthorized conflict with no clear purpose or exit strategy. Support articles of impeachment for Trump's repeated defiance of the Constitution. This cannot stand.
