President Trump’s directive to investigate ActBlue, the primary fundraising platform for Democratic candidates, is a blatant misuse of executive power aimed at undermining political opposition. Legal scholars warn that politicizing the Justice Department erodes the foundational principle of impartial justice. Steve Levitsky, a Harvard political scientist and coauthor of “How Democracies Die,” notes that using state power to target political adversaries is characteristic of authoritarian regimes (AP News, April 2025). ActBlue has empowered millions of Americans to participate in politics through small-dollar donations.
