This is My Country NOT Your Church

To: Sen. Cornyn, Rep. Doggett, Sen. Cruz

July 29

The separation of church and state is a core principle deeply rooted in our Constitution and the foundational values of our nation. Allowing federal employees to proselytize or promote their personal religious beliefs in the workplace undermines this principle and risks creating an environment that is exclusionary, coercive, and hostile for those who do not share those beliefs. Such actions could lead to widespread discrimination, marginalization, and a chilling effect on free speech and expression. It is vital to maintain a clear separation between personal faith and government functions to ensure equal treatment and respect for all citizens, regardless of their religious beliefs or lack thereof. Federal workplaces should be welcoming and inclusive spaces where employees can carry out their duties without being subjected to unwanted religious persuasion or pressure. I urge you to reconsider this misguided policy, which threatens to erode the vital wall of separation between church and state. A full investigation into the motivations and potential consequences of this decision is warranted to uphold the constitutional principles that have safeguarded religious freedom for all Americans. Allowing the government to promote or favor any particular religion sets a dangerous precedent that undermines our democracy and the rights of every citizen.
