Oppose unlawful deployment of military assets on home soil against our citizens

I am writing to express my deep concern about the recent deployment of the National Guard in California— specifically in Los Angeles —against the expressed wishes of Governor Gavin Newsom, Mayor Karen Bass, and the Los Angeles Police Department. This action is a dangerous and unlawful overreach by the federal administration. The protests in question have been peaceful. Citizens are exercising their First Amendment rights to assemble and speak out. There has been no widespread violence, looting, or lawlessness to warrant military intervention. Local and state leadership have clearly stated that such a deployment is neither needed nor wanted. The federal government choosing to override these decisions is alarming and unacceptable. This move seems designed not to protect public safety, but rather to escalate tensions and create a pretext for invoking the Insurrection Act — an extreme and unjustified step that would further erode civil liberties and undermine democratic norms. I urge you to speak out publicly and forcefully against this misuse of military power. Congress must not remain silent in the face of unlawful and authoritarian actions. Please stand with the people of California — and with all Americans who believe in the Constitution and the rule of law — by demanding accountability and transparency from the administration. Thank you for your leadership and your commitment to upholding democratic principles.
