“Shall oppressed humanity find no asylum on this globe?"
– THOMAS JEFFERSON, 1801
Jefferson believed immigrants were an imperative factor in the great American experiment and that we, as Americans, had an obligation to provide refuge for those seeking escape.
We are a nation of immigrants, and yet our government seeks to make it instead a nation of Anglo Saxon euro-derived christians with predominantly Caucasian ancestry.
They tout these objectives as the true intentions of our forefathers and depend on the ignorance of its constituents to maintain that fallacy. They bastardize these objectives American manifesto and encourage their followers to uphold a narrative that lacks any factual foundation. They depend on right-wing media and pundits to spread these falsehoods as some sort of inalienable gospel, and they gaslight anyone who dares speak up for truth and the intended American experience.
You have a very unique opportunity- unprecedented access to social media platforms that allow you to speak to your constituents on equal footing. The President uses his for fear mongering rhetoric. Imagine instead a Congress that used theirs to remind their constituents of the tenets upon which this country was built.
This current administration feels very us vs them. Imagine what you could accomplish if you actually used your power to represent us instead of them!
