Allow people to buy hot food with food stamps
To: Sen. Queen, Sen. Martin

The Hot Foods Act of 2025 aims to expand the types of food items that can be purchased with Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. Currently, SNAP benefits cannot be used to buy hot prepared foods or foods meant for immediate consumption, with a few exceptions. This bill would allow SNAP participants to use their benefits to purchase hot and prepared foods from eligible retailers. Given the significant number of food insecure households relying on SNAP, allowing hot food purchases would increase access to nutritious meal options. Many low-income individuals lack adequate facilities or time to prepare meals from raw ingredients. Permitting the use of SNAP for hot foods promotes food security and nutrition for vulnerable populations. For these reasons, I urge you to support the Hot Foods Act and increase nutrition assistance flexibility.
