As your constituent, I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the recent federal funding cuts affecting the Greater Cleveland Food Bank. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's decision to halt millions of dollars in food deliveries to food banks nationwide is profoundly impacting our community. The proposed cuts threaten to increase food insecurity, adversely affecting families, children, and seniors who rely on the Food Bank's services.
The Greater Cleveland Food Bank plays a pivotal role in combating food insecurity in our region. In the past year alone, they have served over 400,000 individuals across six counties, a testament to the escalating need for their services . The termination of programs like the Local Food Production Alliance Program, which supplied the Food Bank with approximately one million pounds of locally grown fruits and vegetables, exacerbates the challenges faced by vulnerable populations in our area.
I urge you to advocate for the restoration of funding to the Greater Cleveland Food Bank and similar organizations that are instrumental in addressing hunger in our communities. Ensuring that these organizations have the necessary resources is not only a moral imperative but also a sound investment in the health and well-being of our society.
