This bill undermines the rights and wellbeing of transgender individuals, particularly transgender youth. Codifying binary definitions of male and female based solely on biological characteristics at birth disregards the lived experiences and identities of transgender and non-binary people. It will enable discrimination against this already vulnerable group in schools, sports, bathrooms, shelters, and other public spaces. Rather than protecting women and girls, it endangers transgender women and girls by denying their identity and access to appropriate facilities. Pushing an extreme anti-transgender agenda harms children by restricting access to gender-affirming care, which is supported by major medical associations as beneficial and potentially life-saving for trans youth. We should support policies that promote inclusion, respect human rights, and follow scientific consensus from medical experts. This regressive legislation promotes harmful prejudices under the guise of defending women's rights while ignoring the rights and safety of an entire marginalized community. I urge you to reconsider backing this discriminatory bill.
