Oppose Healthcare Cuts for Iran War Funding, Restore IRS Enforcement Instead

To: Sen. Schiff, Rep. McClintock, Sen. Padilla

From: A constituent in El Dorado Hills, CA

April 2

Vote against any healthcare cuts to fund the $200 billion request for military operations with Israel against Iran. This war has no clear purpose or goal, and stripping 300,000 more Americans of health insurance to pay for it is unconscionable. House Budget Committee Chair Jodey Arrington's proposal to revive ACA cost-sharing reduction cuts would save $31 billion while leaving hundreds of thousands uninsured. This comes after last year's OBBB Act already cut $1 trillion from Medicaid and stripped coverage from up to 15 million Americans. Premiums have more than doubled for over 20 million people, health facilities are closing, and families are cutting spending on essentials to afford healthcare. There's a better way to raise revenue. Restore the 25% of IRS staff cut last year and direct them to audit the most complex tax returns. That alone would bring in $650 billion, more than three times what's needed for this war request. The remaining funds could restore Medicaid, SNAP, and other vital programs that serve Americans. Stop dismantling our government to fund another yet another war or too build more bombs to drop on yet another country. Instead, restore IRS enforcement capacity so everyone pays their fair share, our debt is managed, and Americans' healthcare is supported.
