I’m a poly-theist witch. I’m not religious by Christian standards, but I agree with Pope Leo! AI must be regulated to make it protect and serve all of nature & humanity, not enslave the world and its resources & residents. Regulate AI to Serve Humanity, Not Concentrate Power Pass meaningful AI regulation now — legislation that ensures this technology serves all people and protects our natural world, not one that lets it become a tool for concentrating power in the hands of a few corporations or governments. Pope Leo XIV's encyclical Magnifica humanitas puts it plainly: "a more moral AI is not enough if that morality is determined by a few." That is exactly the problem we face without strong, independent oversight. Unregulated AI is already extracting rare earth minerals on the backs of exploited workers, enabling mass data collection that profiles and manipulates behavior, and lowering the threshold for automated military violence. These are not hypothetical harms. Any framework you support must include independent oversight, enforceable ethical standards, and protections for workers displaced by automation. Technology that "facilitates attacks without seeing the face of human beings" and platforms designed to exploit human vulnerabilities have no place in a just society. Regulate AI to serve the common good — or become complicit in the damage it causes.
