I am writing to express my absolute exhaustion and outrage regarding your continued lack of backbone in the face of the current administration's overreach. For too long, you have prioritized the "business as usual" of Washington over the actual protection of the American people from executive abuse.
The upcoming Homeland Security bill is a line in the sand. If this legislation does not include clear, absolute, and enforceable constraints on the use of ICE and the National Guard, you must be prepared to shut the government down. We will no longer tolerate the funding of what has effectively become a personal police force for Donald Trump.
You have already done enough damage to this state and to this nation through your complicity and your preferences over results. You need to understand a fundamental truth that you seem to have forgotten in the DC bubble: The average person would infinitely prefer to have no government at all than to continue funding a corrupt system that bankrolls insane, unchecked policies. We are tired of seeing our tax dollars used to militarize our communities and bypass the rule of law.
The time for moderate statements and "deep concern" is over. Either you stand up now and use the only real leverage you have—the power of the purse—or you admit that you have no interest in representing the people who sent you there.
Stop being a coward. Block the DHS bill, or shut it down.
