Today I take pen in hand to write and to sound yet another alarm about Project 2025, a coordinated effort by extremist conservative organizations to reshape our federal government and judiciary in ways that threaten civil rights and democratic principles. Project 2025 will eventually - by the extremist takeover of our courts — rewrite and use our laws against the very freedoms we hold so dear. Project 2025 is not merely a theoretical threat. It is an extension of a strategy that has already had tangible impacts on our judicial system. During the previous administration, judicial nominations were effectively outsourced to far-right groups, resulting in the appointment of judges who have demonstrated opposition to crucial rights including abortion access, voting rights, and LGBTQ+ protections. The potential consequences of Project 2025 are far-reaching and damaging to our rights and a stable, equitable justice system. By accelerating the erosion of civil rights protections and concentrating power in the executive branch, this plan threatens to undermine the very foundations of our democracy. Organizations like the Heritage Foundation and Alliance Defending Freedom have already made significant progress in transforming courts and rolling back civil liberties. Recent Supreme Court decisions have laid concerning groundwork for Project 2025's agenda. Moreover, ethical concerns surrounding some justices further underscore the need for vigilance in protecting the integrity of our judicial system. As your constituent, I urge you to take immediate and decisive action to oppose Project 2025 and any efforts to undermine the independence and fairness of our judiciary. This includes scrutinizing all judicial nominees, supporting legislation to strengthen ethics rules for the Supreme Court, and publicly speaking out against attempts to concentrate power in ways that threaten our system of checks and balances. The stakes could not be higher. Our future as a just and equitable society depends on your leadership in this critical moment. Thank you.
