Uphold the laws of war and Congressional authority

To: Rep. Bergman

From: A verified voter in Marquette, MI

April 7

I’m writing to express serious concern about ongoing U.S. actions in Iran. Regardless of politics, there are basic rules in war meant to protect civilians. Reports of strikes on a school in Minab, continued civilian harm, damage to infrastructure and threats of genocide and total destruction raise urgent questions about whether those standards are being upheld. I’m asking you to: • Publicly affirm that U.S. operations must follow the Law of Armed Conflict and protect civilians • Demand clear accountability and transparency regarding reported civilian casualties • Reassert Congress’s constitutional authority over war powers This a non-partisan issue. It’s about maintaining discipline, moral clarity, and the rule of law in how the United States conducts itself. Our strength depends not just on military power, but on whether we uphold the standards we expect from others. Thanks for your time.
