Support the de minimis rule and fair trade with Canada

I am writing to urge your support for maintaining and strengthening the de minimis rule, which allows low-value shipments to enter the U.S. duty-free. This policy benefits small businesses, consumers, and cross-border trade, particularly with Canada, one of our closest allies and largest trading partners. The de minimis threshold is crucial for American small businesses that rely on efficient, cost-effective imports for their operations. Lowering or eliminating this threshold would increase costs for these businesses, leading to higher prices for consumers and unnecessary administrative burdens. Maintaining a reasonable de minimis level ensures that small businesses remain competitive in the global marketplace, particularly against large corporations with more resources to navigate complex trade barriers. Fair trade with Canada is also essential for economic growth and stability. Any changes to trade policies that create unnecessary friction at the border would harm both American and Canadian businesses, disrupt supply chains, and slow economic recovery efforts. A strong, cooperative trade relationship with Canada benefits workers and businesses in both countries and should be a priority in future trade policy decisions. I urge you to support policies that protect de minimis thresholds and promote fair trade with Canada to ensure that small businesses and consumers continue to benefit from a thriving, efficient North American trade system. Thank you for your attention to this important issue.
