Exert your authority, Congress. Are we at war or not at war?

To: Sen. Fischer, Rep. Flood, Sen. Ricketts

Alexander Ward of the Wall Street Journal reported that Trump told a group of small-business owners last week that he calls his war on Iran a “mini war.” And yet last week - at the 60-day mark required by the 1973 War Powers Resolution - the Trump administration argued that it didn’t need congressional approval for the war because the war had “terminated” on April 7. So are we at war or are we not at war? And why aren’t you asking these questions? I mean, someone needs to ask questions because Americans are unhappy, unsettled and worried. According to a new Washington Post–ABC News–Ipsos poll, 61 percent of respondents believe that the use of military force against Iran was a mistake, with 36 percent said it was the right decision. Another poll - this one from Reuters/Ipsos - from late April shows Trump’s approval rating at 34 percent. We’ve lost confidence in this man, so someone needs to lead the country out of this expensive military mess. You still represent us, right? You still hold congressional power, correct? Why aren’t you exerting your authority? Why aren’t you asking the hard questions? Honestly, for the sake of our economy, our safety, our sanity, please get together with your colleagues and end this endless Trump war.
